The paintings reflect his interest in abstraction and address issues of gender and sensuality, always with a touch of Cuban warmth and enthusiasm for life inspired by living in Asia.
Raúl Pellicier Villafaña was born in Havana in the mid- seventies, just when Cuban artists were breaking from traditional art and moving into a more experimental form of expression. As a teenager, he immersed himself in what would be known as Nuevo Arte Cubano (New Cuban Art), training with famous painter and caricaturist Cecilio Aviles at the Instituto Superior de Arte.
An avid supporter of Projecto Prado in the nineties, a project that helped young disadvantaged artists by advertising and selling their art on the famous boulevard by the same name. Here he met many young talents with whom he collaborated in years to come.
After various exhibitions in Havana, he moved to Switzerland in 2010 where he continued his artistic career, exhibiting in Zurich at the “Red factory” and at the “Arte Cubano” gallery.
He worked for several years in Singapore – collaborating with the Artitude Gallery. Exhibitions took place at the Fullerton Hotel and in Tokyo.
End of 2020 Raúl returned to Switzerland and continues his artistic journey. He keeps exploring and further expands his artistic reach with one main focus to make a difference and bring color to his client’s home. Currently he is enrolled in an Interior Design course.
